Whilst not on complete lockdown here in Malta, we are advised to stay home as much as possible. I have a horrible immune system and we both want this all over with as soon as possible so Arvid and I are limiting our time in the outside world so we had to find a way to get food and groceries delivered to our home.

Not usually a big problem, but with most of the island having the same idea, finding delivery slots has become a big challenge. But I've been researching, refreshing and asking on Instagram and have found a few ways that you can find online supermarkets in Malta and online grocery with delivery slots available.

My top tips for ordering groceries online in Malta

Shop around- options will vary depending on your location. Do a few test baskets in various sites and see what works out the best value.
Order separately- don't order all items at one place. Use a farmshop for the fruit and veg. Use a meat shop like Miracle Food for the meats. Then a grocery store for the rest.
Check delivery costs- if you only need a few small orders, you might end up paying a lot in delivery costs if you split the shop, so see what makes most sense.
Don't expect next day delivery- you're looking at around 2-3 days at leastso don't let your cupboards go bare before ordering.

Wentworth butcher is situated in San Gwann and opens 7AM to 7PM Mon - Fri and from 7AM to 2PM on Saturday and even on Sundays from 8AM to 12PM. Find a great selection of meat products, frozen products as well as homemade food, marinated meats and wine!

Order fresh fruit and veg online with delivery in Malta

Years ago I used to use online supermarkets in Malta like MaltaSupermarket and whenever I ordered fruit and veg they would send the absolute worst items- all bruised and rotten- most likely the ones they knew they'd never sell. So I was not hopeful when I began the hunt to find fresh fruit and veg for home delivery in Malta.

But I asked Instagram and was inundated with ideas! You guys are amazing! So, the places recommended were:

Mgarr Farms- by far the most popular and best value for money. Can order online and lots of delivery slots available. I made an order on Weds for delivery on Monday. Will keep you posted!
Farmers Deli Malta- has an online shop, delivery slots available but prices are DOUBLE that of Mgarr Farms.
Vincents Eco Farm- no online shop, you have to message them
FNG Supplies
The Veg Box- not 100% sure you can order remotely but they were recommended.

Online supermarkets with delivery in Malta

Rumour has it that you can order delivery from most supermarkets. Like normally we'd use Gala, but they don't have an online supermarket website and I am not calling them up, hoping someone answers and listing every item I can think of. To order one needs a selection, prices, online payment etc. So I have scoured the web and asked you guys on Instagram again for recommendations of supermarkets and grocery stores with delivery slots available in Malta.

MaltaSupermarket- can be pricy, horrible website but login, fill your basket then log back in at 23:59 go to 'checkout' and refresh until delivery slots become available. I made an order on Thurs, at midnight, for delivery the following Thurs.
Miracle Foods via Bolt Food- browse their items, pay in the app and get home delivery
Gala Supermarket - offering delivery to various locations nearby. Free on orders over €50. Email supermarket@gala.com.mt or call 21331620. Delivery usually within 2 working days!
Groceries via Zaype- an app with a selection (5+) of grocery stores offering delivery. Places like Xzone, Freed, Barbuto Organic Store, Smart Supermarket, Daves. The app is not great to use but it's an option.
Groceries via Delivify- another app with a grocery section offering a very small selection (2+) of stores like Maypole and Dayfresh Meats. Awful to use app.
